Best Time to Visit Bhutan

Bhutan’s seasons at a glance: when to go for clear mountain views, festivals, trekking or the black-necked cranes.

There is no single best time to visit Bhutan. It depends on what you most want to see and do.

Season by season

  • Spring (March to May): mild days, flowering rhododendrons and Paro Tshechu. A popular time for touring and trekking.
  • Summer (June to August): the monsoon season. Valleys are green and quiet, with cloud and rain, and some roads and trails can be affected.
  • Autumn (September to November): clear skies, harvest colours and Thimphu Tshechu. One of the busiest seasons, so plan ahead.
  • Winter (December to February): cold nights but often bright days, fewer visitors, and the black-necked cranes in Phobjikha. High passes and treks may be closed by snow.
