What to Pack for Bhutan

A practical packing list for Bhutan: layers, walking shoes, modest clothing for temples and dzongs, and a few things travellers often forget.

Clothing

  • Layers: a warm fleece or down jacket and a waterproof shell, whatever the season.
  • Modest clothing for temples and dzongs: long sleeves, long trousers or skirts, and a collared shirt for men.
  • Comfortable walking shoes with good grip, and hiking boots if you plan to trek.
  • A sun hat, warm hat and light gloves.

Useful extras

  • Sunscreen and sunglasses: the sun is strong at altitude.
  • A reusable water bottle.
  • Any personal medication, with a copy of prescriptions.
  • A power adaptor and a small torch.
  • Some cash in small notes for small purchases.

For treks, we send a detailed kit list once your route is confirmed.
